Glitz is in!
I found the Twilight Saga to be pure fun. Perhaps the folks who don't like it take their free time more seriously than I do mine. Or perhaps they don't read at every available opportunity. I don't watch TV. I work very hard with very difficult people and reading is more of an escape than a study. It isn't that I thought it was perfect. I simply found the story enjoyable and gripping. I have read the series twice and two of the books two and three times. They were quite consumable.
Unfortunately I'm plagued by the need to edit and will buy a book specifically to edit it. My copies are vigorously marked up. And I'm still delighted by the departure this reading gave me from the norm. Editing is fun, too!
I found the characters to be entertaining. Because I have vertigo, it was grand to read of someone who is more plagued by gracelessness than I. I think her bad luck just made her more appealing, for me. The Cullens were intimidating to some, I suppose. I have been around some very famous people and have always assumed they are just like you and me. Some are completely kind and some aren't. The Cullens' stories were an excursion into fantasy and the recreation of myths that I reveled in. I love to see someone stretch all of our notions by changing what we think we believe. What DO we believe about vampires, after all? I, traditionally, if the use of that word isn't too idiosyncratic, find vampire stories annoying. These were candy.

I loved this book. It is a great easy read! Very interesting and kept me wanting more. Even though I am 20 years old I could still get into it!

SMeyer, I'm not impressed
Alright, I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a fan of vampires. Or romance.
However, this isn't even a vampire novel. The vampires don't drink human blood, they drink ANIMAL blood. They don't turn to dust or incinerate in the sun - they SPARKLE like diamonds. And, according to the author, they don't even have FANGS. I ask you, what sort of vampire novel is that?
I know I'm going to get lynched by a bunch of fangirls for saying that SMeyer didn't write "teh best book EVAR!!1!!1!" Honestly, I'm all for creativity in your stories. However, one thing I'd rather you do first, before you set pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard as it were) is RESEARCH. Research might be a pain sometimes, but it'll make your book all that much better. SMeyer hardly did any research on anything that's in her novel...vampires, Forks weather, how new kids are treated in school, biology, *anything*. She didn't learn how to write convincing characters either, and the ones that actually had potential (Jacob, Alice, Victoria, James) were promptly killed off or given complete personality workovers in the following books to make them rapists/pedophiles and stereotypical ditzes, respectively.
Another problem I have with this novel is that it is written in the most cliche purple prose I have ever read. (No, really. I've read Eragon. This is worse. Eragon at least has a plot, kind of. All this book is about is Bella drooling over her darling Eddie-poo.) SMeyer doesn't understand the concept of "show not tell" and feels it necessary to describe Edward's "inhuman beauty" so many times that you start going "Oh, yeah RIGHT" about 50 pages in. She tells us that Bella is "selfless" and "kind", but all I see is Bella acting like a spoiled brat to her friends and family and refusing to talk to anyone who isn't beautiful enough (basically, no one but Edward). And she has a bad habit of overusing words like "murmured" and "chagrin." Someone ran a reading-level test on this book, and it came back as second-grade level reading. I'm quite serious. And this is being marketed to teenagers because why?
The author is also, quite simply, one of the most naive or stupid people I have ever encountered. She says, first of all, that her books have no message in them. Any small child will tell you that every story has a message if you look deep enough into it. And, folks, I've found the messages in Twilight. They aren't good ones. 1. Only beautiful people are worth your time. Ugly people can just be ignored, even if they're nice. 2. If a guy likes you, you can ignore the fact that he's manipulating you, emotionally abusing you, stalking you, and destroying your property because "he loves you" and "it's for your own good." 3. Necrophilia is okay as long as he's "OMG HAWT." 4. It's okay to give up all your ambitions for life once you have a boyfriend. It's completely normal for the two of you to take up all each other's time and become the center of each other's lives. Especially in high school.
Another thing. SMeyer says, and I quote, "And stalking doesn't scare me. I've never stalked anyone (yet) but I think I would be AWESOME at it." Yes. This woman made #5 on Time's Entertainer of the Year List. This woman is writing the drivel that girls across America are eating up. Really. If that doesn't scare you just a little bit, I don't think you can be fully human. Stalking isn't cool, fangirls, and it isn't fun, no matter what SMeyer says. It's disgusting behavior and terrifying for the victim and if this woman is condoning it then I fear for the future.
Finally, SMeyer sent this book off to publishers after she finished the first draft. Not the second or third or fiftieth draft, but the FIRST. She didn't even edit or revise it at all! Now, if that doesn't say "bad fanfic writer" I don't know what does... She's also arrogant enough to say that she's going to finish 5 books in 2009. As an aspiring writer, that's an insult, because even I (a 17-year-old) know that you need a good 2 or 3 years for each book. Working on multiple books at one time is one thing - finishing them all within a year is quite another. That's not a compliment, by the way, that's me shaking my head in disgust.
I leave you with this, reader, as a final proof of just how bad this book is and how messed up this poor woman must be. She has said in interviews that when she was writing this book, she felt annoyed when she had to stop when her kids needed something. Now, I'm not a parent myself, but I've been around long enough to know that when you have kids they're supposed to pretty much take precedence over everything else in your life. What kind of mother is this woman?! Oh, and she's been quoted multiple times as saying "I am anti-human." Great example there, SMeyer. You fail multiple times. (If you absolutely must check out how awful this book is, then get it from the library or borrow a copy from a friend. Don't give her any more money, I beseech you.)

I actually bought this book because it was the only one in the store here in Iraq, and to my suprise it was actually great. I am waiting on book 2 because they only had 1 and 3, but I couldn't put the book down and read it in a day. Very great story line.

New Moon (The Twilight Saga, Book 2)
Price : $10.99 $4.00

| Editorial Review :
Legions of readers entranced by Twilight are hungry for more and they won't be disappointed. In New Moon, Stephenie Meyer delivers another irresistible combination of romance and suspense with a supernatural twist. The "star-crossed" lovers theme continues as Bella and Edward find themselves facing new obstacles, including a devastating separation, the mysterious appearance of dangerous wolves roaming the forest in Forks, a terrifying threat of revenge from a female vampire and a deliciously sinister encounter with Italy's reigning royal family of vampires, the Volturi. Passionate, riveting, and full of surprising twists and turns, this vampire love saga is well on its way to literary immortality.
Customer Review :
I was a teenage werewolf.
This book has been analyzed to death already, so I won't write too long of a review. Presumably, you will already have read Twilight before you read this book. This book pick up soon after that one left off. But fans of Edward the vampire may be disappointed, because he leaves near the beginning of the book and doesn't show up again until near the end. Instead, most of the book is devoted to Bella's friendship with Jacob the werewolf. We learn all we need to know about werewolves (Stephanie Meyer's version of werewolves, anyway). It's fairly entertaining, although some people may find all the "love that will never die" stuff to be corny.

Not as good as the first
**This contains spoilers**
As soon as I finished "Twilight", I raced to the bookstore to pick up "New Moon". Expecting the same emotion and story, I read with great anticipation. But I was soon shocked to find how the story took a radical turn. This is a VERY sad book. The depression that Bella feels after Edward leaves is very powerful. If you've ever lost a close family member, you can empathize with the "gaping hole" feeling she has. So I continued to read on, desperate to know when Edward was coming back....I mean he had to, didn't he? I read and read...and 400 pages into it I really started to get discouraged. The story tended to drag on until all of a sudden it jumps to lightning speed and Bella races halfway around the world to.....well, I won't ruin all of it for you. Anyways, I'm really hoping I won't be disappointed with "Eclipse". If you're a hopeless romantic, stop at the first book.

LOVED THIS BOOK - HOPE THEY MAKE A MOVIE TO FOLLOW TWILIGHT
This book is a wonderful follow up. Everyone I have loaned my books to are asking me to buy them a copy for christmas. Yes, they have read them, but say they can't wait to reread them. I just can't even begain to explain how wonderful the book are to read. I my self have already read them twice and can't wait to see the twilight movie, but I am hoping they will follow up the movie twilight with movies of new moon, eclipse, and breaking dawn. I hope they don't just leave us hanging.

Demonic Novel!
Vampire novels are never good! In fact, they have much more in common with the Devil and evil spirits than they do with anything else. Stuff like this comes from the pit of Hell! These books are NEVER good, they are always BAD! Mark my words, this book WILL NOT improve your life, in fact, it will undoubtedly ruin it!

Readers captivated by Twilight and New Moon will eagerly devour Eclipse, the much anticipated third book in Stephenie Meyer's riveting vampire love saga. As Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob --- knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella has one more decision to make: life or death. But which is which?
Customer Review :
Devilish Book!
Like I said in my review of the first horrible novel in this demonic series, vampire novels are never the stuff of truth, they are, rather, the stuff of nightmares and demons! These "Twilight" novels should go out of print and to a warehouse to collect dust forever! By reading them, people knowingly or unknowingly glorify Satan! These books should be taken off Amazon.com!

THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST ENTERTAINING SAGAS THAT I HAVE READ IN A LONG TIME. IT KEEPS YOU WANTING MORE NO MATTER HOW LONG YOU HAVE BEEN SITTING. ALL 4 BOOKS ARE WORTH YOUR TIME AND MONEY. THE HOST BY STEPHANIE MYERS IS ALSO A GOOD READ!

Liked the alliance, but still irritated by character development!
I liked how the alliance between the werewolves and vampires came to fruition, but I still find the love triangle between Bella, Edward, and Jacob had to believe! Either way the best part of the book was about the legend of the spirit warriors, maybe Stephenie should take her time and write a quality book about the werewolves and try to be a bit more conscientious of writing strong female characters.

So much better than the first three books...
I'm not giving any thing away, no spoilers here. After book 1, I had to read 2 and 3 just to see where this was going. Breaking Dawn made it all worth it. The first three were teenage-angst melodramas... this book is an EPIC. The emotions, the nobleness, the choices, the suspense... its a page turner you will want to read again.

Disgusting Excuse for a Novel!
This is a horrible, sickening, and perverted novel that should be banned! Kids especially should never be allowed to read garbage like this! The demons must laugh uproariously to see people on this planet reading the stuff of nightmares and Satan's handiwork! Disgusting novels equals perverted read!

breaking down
ive started getting my hopes up just after reading the first book twilight.. but it just started regressing towards the last book.. and all i can think of was i wanted to keep my sanity and find another good book to read to compensate for the wasted time i spent on this last book. "b-down" was dragged out a lot.. there was no actual plot until the last 1/4 of the book and when it finally came it just seemed flat, completely anti-climactic. it has more holes than i can count. i wish there were more vampire actions.. more fights.. maybe some sacrifices that will make the story more meaningful. a real battle shouldve happened that was anticipated from the beginning. but it was a good thing that everything ended well.. the happy ending was actually compelling, still edward and bella and nessie together after everything.
but still.. i was very very very disappointed er nauseated! whats with all the jacob imprinting on nessie part? that is sooooooo wrong in soooo many levels!!! it makes me and a whole lot of people i know who read the book really sick! okay it was said that the reason why this imprinting took place was coz bella always sees jacob as family.. but they're already bestfriends.. what more should be proven? sigh. jacob will always be a big part of bella's life. being very good friends means that they are and will always be a family and that is priceless. it means a lot. thats justifiable already. thats special enough. why does it seem that it was forced on this part that jacob still has to be imprinted on someone connected to bella? oh and edward calling jacob his son towards the last part of the book? (i just couldnt stomach it). i just hoped that jacob imprinted on leah instead considering the two developed chemistry in the story. and still jacob is the best uncle and he will be protecting nessie all the time. that will make more sense, and the wolves will continue to be stronger allies of the cullens. jacob doesnt have to wait till nessie turns 18 or 20 and know that they're more than friends. so his imprinting on the half-vampire daughter of his former love-of-his-life just to mean or forced he is still family- is truly unnecessary, it is so just not right. i cant and a lot of readers cant really stand it. i wish there was a poll about this imprinting lol.
and one last thing, something that is certainly essential that i couldnt get over with.. i hope the author showed here that edward and his daughter had more connection to each other.. more chemistry.. more bonding.. i hate the fact that the imprinting overshadowed this very important matter. please.. have mercy! huhuhu..
so if midnight sun will still be released, considering this is edward's point of view of twilight and onwards maybe, i hope it will be shown this time how close nessie and her dad is, important facts, details, how edward was longing to have a kid of his own and he thought it could never happen but it did.. how it is to be a biological vampire dad lol..how nessie feels about her dad too and him being very good friends with bella's bestfriend as well at last etc. and edward doesnt have to be jacob's father-in-law. i wish it was shown that jacob is finally at peace with himself towards edward in a way that it wasnt coz of the imprinting on his daughter and it doenst have to happen anyway to begin with. (it's difficult to accept it otherwise..)i know there are lots of things left unsaid.. so much to learn from edward's side. sigh.
so there, i hope it all goes well.. everyone, every couple, every coven, every pack, every alliance, every family,- WITHOUT THE IMPRINTING OF JACOB ON NESSIE- will be living their own lives but still be in harmony and close to each other if there really is a fifth book.

I loved it, with some exceptions!
Warning, contains Plot Spoilers. Let me first say I loved the entire series, although there were many frustrations with the story along the way. With Breaking Dawn, I don't have the complaints that a lot of other people had with it. I was glad to see Bella become a vampire, and I loved the ending, even though there was no battle at the end. I didn't find the lack of a battle to be anticlimactic. I did wish there had been more time spent on Edward and Bella being together at the end along with Renesmee, but then I always want more time between the main romantic characters at the end of the story, especially when the story and the characters are so likable and interesting as Edward and Bella were. My problem with BD was how the author dealt with Bella's pregnancy. Her pregnancy is one of the major story lines running through BD. But instead of doing it from Bella's perspective, or even Edward's(who is after all the main male character), she chose to do it from Jacob's perspective. All we get to see of Edward and Bella dealing with this event is through Jacob's eyes. Her reason was that she tried to do it from Bella's perspective with her on the couch the entire time and it came across as very boring. I think it could have been done in such a way as to make it interesting from Bella's perspective. She even could have done it from Edwards perspective. I fact, I would've like to have read it from his perspective. Although I know it's only because it's only because he tried to take Bella away from Edward, otherwise finding him a likable character, I found Jacob to be very irritating. It's like she's just getting the story started and she has to break away from Bella and Edward to tell more of Jacob's story, which I did find interesting but it just seemed to take away from Bella and Edward's story. Even writing it from Jacob's perspective wouldn't have been so bad, if she had included a more of Bella and Edward in it. The biggest fault I have with it; I agree with Bella's decision to have the baby and to keep Edward and the others from getting rid of it. I understand that she loved the baby because it was Edward's and that she wanted to keep it. But we never get to see Bella try to make Edward understand why she wants to keep the baby even at the cost of her life. She never trys to explain it to him, at least that we are made aware of. It's like she just ignores Edward and the pain we see him go through as he watches her slowly waste away. In spite of this though, I still found it to be a very entertaining read and a very satisfactory ending to the saga.
Rating :
Slow Read, but overall- OK.
I was late jumping on the "Twilight Saga" bandwagon, but over the summer I picked up Twilight and finished it in two days. The same with New Moon & Eclipse. But Breaking Dawn was sorta a slow-read. It just didn't have the same intensity as the first IMHO. Renesmee was a cute addition the the Cullen family, but like others I didn't really dig the whole imprinting thing on her. It wrapped up nicely though, but I did sort of wander if Bella would ever see Renee again..All in all I give it a 3/5

Questions & Answers
Question : What books do you suggest reading that are really great thrillers?
I am in the mood to read some thrillers. Any suggestions on any books to read especially any by regular authors (not the big sellers like Michael Chrichton, but not excluding them either). Plus only adult literature as well, not books for teens or kids.
Please don't just list books, but tell me why they are good that so I have some info to know what I should get.
Answer:
i tend to like older ones - agatha christie is the best, hands down. "and then there were none,""the murder of roger ackroyd," and "witness for the prosecution" are all murder mysteries with really unpredictable, gasp-worthy plot twists.
a newer one that i haven't finished but find really interesting is "eye contact" by cammie mcgovern. it's about an autistic boy who witnesses the murder of his friend but is unable to communicate what he saw.
hope this helps!

Question : What are some good american historical fiction books?
i looking for books related to american wars for example revolutionary war, civil war, ww1,ww2
my english teacher forces his students to read, analize, write essays and get tested on his boring and out dated books about america history. he want the books that we read in his class to connect to other classes. his intentions are good but he needs to choose better books and give kids more options.
Please reccomend books are exciting, will apeal to kids age 12-14 and appropriate for class.
can you also reccomend books not relating to war but in the same time period.
any good books related to physcial science are also helpful.
Answer:
You should look into the author Ann Rinaldi, she writes excellent historical fiction for young readers both at the middle school and high school level and her books cover all the major events in history. Here are a couple:
The Secret of Sarah Revere (Revolutionary War)
An Acquaintance with Darkness (Civil War)
A Break with Charity- (Salem Witch Trials)
And she has many others. Excellent writer and she is used by a lot of classroom teachers although apparently not yours.

-the twilight series is really good. It is by stephanie meyer and it is a vampire romance. 3 books so far
Twilight:
About three things I was absolutely positive:
First, Edward was a vampire.
Second, there was a part of him–and I didn’t know how dominant that part might be–that thirsted for my blood.
And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.
“I’D NEVER GIVEN MUCH THOUGHT TO HOW I WOULD DIE– I’d had reason enough in the last few months –but even if I had, I would not have imagined it like this. . . . Surely it was a good way to die, in the place of something else, someone I loved. Noble, even. That ought to count for something.”
When Isabella Swan moves to the gloomy town of Forks and meets the mysterious, alluring Edward Cullen, her life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. With his porcelain skin, golden eyes, mesmerizing voice, and supernatural gifts, Edward is both irresistible and impenetrable. Up until now, he has managed to keep his true identity hidden, but Bella is determined to uncover his dark secret.
What Bella doesn’t realize is the closer she gets to him, the more she is putting herself and those around her at risk. And, it might be too late to turn back. . . .
Deeply seductive and extraordinarily suspenseful, Twilight will have readers riveted right until the very last page is turned.
New Moon:
For Bella Swan, there is one thing more important than life itself: Edward Cullen. But being in love with a vampire is more dangerous than Bella ever could have imagined. Edward has already rescued Bella from the clutches of an evil vampire, but now, as their daring relationship threatens all that is near and dear to them, they realize their troubles may just be beginning....
Legions of readers entranced by the New York Times bestseller Twilight are hungry for more, and they won't be disappointed by this gripping sequel. In New Moon, Stephenie Meyer delivers another irresistible combination of romance and suspense with a supernatural twist. Passionate, riveting, and deeply moving, this vampire love saga is well on its way to literary immortality.
Eclipse:
-Then there is Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin.
Welcome to Elsewhere. It is warm, with a breeze, and the beaches are marvelous. It’s quiet and peaceful. You can’t get sick or any older. Curious to see new paintings by Picasso? Swing by one of Elsewhere’s museums. Need to talk to someone about your problems? Stop by Marilyn Monroe’s psychiatric practice. Elsewhere is where fifteen-year-old Liz Hall ends up, after she has died. It is a place so like Earth, yet completely different. Here Liz will age backward from the day of her death until she becomes a baby again and returns to Earth. But Liz wants to turn sixteen, not fourteen again. She wants to get her driver’s license. She wants to graduate from high school and go to college. And now that she’s dead, Liz is being forced to live a life she doesn’t want with a grandmother she has only just met. And it is not going well. How can Liz let go of the only life she has ever known and embrace a new one? Is it possible that a life lived in reverse is no different from a life lived forward? This moving, often funny book about grief, death, and loss will stay with the reader long after the last page is turned. ....
-The Shwa was here by Neal shustermen
They say his clothes blend into the background, no matter where he stands. They say a lot of things about the Schwa, but one thing’s for sure: no one ever noticed him. Except me. My name is Antsy Bonano—and I was the one who realized the Schwa was "functionally invisible" and used him to make some big bucks. But I was also the one who caused him more grief than a friend should. So if you all just shut up and listen, I’ll tell you everything there is to know about the Schwa, from how he got his name, to what really happened with his mom. I’ll spill everything. Unless, of course, "the Schwa Effect" wipes him out of my brain before I’m done . . . .
-twisted by Laurie hales anderson
High school senior Tyler Miller used to be the kind of guy who faded into the background-average student, average looks, average dysfunctional family. But since he got busted for doing graffiti on the school, and spent the summer doing outdoor work to pay for it, he stands out like you wouldn't believe. His new physique attracts the attention of queen bee Bethany Milbury, who just so happens to be his father's boss's daughter, the sister of his biggest enemy-and Tyler's secret crush. And that sets off a string of events and changes that have Tyler questioning his place in the school, in his family, and in the world. In Twisted, the acclaimed Laurie Halse Anderson tackles a very controversial subject: what it means to be a man today. Fans and new readers alike will be captured by Tyler's pitchperfect, funny voice, the surprising narrative arc, and the thoughtful moral dilemmas that are at the heart of all of the author's award-winning, widely read work.

But even Tony Hawk isn't offering answers this time-or is he? Inexplicably, Sam finds himself whizzed into the future, for a quick glimpse of what will be . . . or what could be. In this wonderfully witty, poignant story about a teenage boy unexpectedly thrust into fatherhood, it's up to Sam to make the right decisions so the bad things that could happen, well, don't.
-Speak by Luarie Hales Anderson
Similar to Lauries other book, It is about a teenager with a not so good life. Melinda ruined the end-of-summer party by clling the cops and now her closet friends and people she does not even know hates her. It is no use to try explaining it to her parent; they do not know what her life is really like. The safest place for Melinda to be is alone inside her head, but that is not even safe beacuase there's something she is trying not to think about, something that happened at the party. If she admitted it she would blow her carefully constucted disguise to smithereens. And then she would have no choice. She would have to speak the truth.
-And then the Harry potter series is really good too.

Question : What are some good chapter books for an upper elementary book club?
I'd like chapter books that are in paperback and are age-appropriate for 3rd-6th graders. Cussing and sexual content should be kept to a minimum if at all. Classics are probably out of the question b/c I don't want to step on the toes of teachers. So far I've got The Secret Apartment, The Landry News, The War with Grandpa, and The Watsons Go to Birmingham. If you're a middle schooler who has some books you really like(d), I'd love your opinion. Same thing for parents and book lovers in general. :) Thanks!
Thanks for the suggestions so far. I've thought about series books as many of you have mentioned, but these are books kids read already. I'd like for the books to be ones they might not normally select on their own. I also don't want to alienate boys w/the selections as they're less inclined to go to the club meetings as it is. Keep 'em coming!

Question : What books have eagerly awaited and then been dissapointed by?
I recently got the first five books from Jim Butcher's Dresden Files for a lovely reading marathon. I love paranormal stuff, and he came so highly recommended I was champing at the bit in anticipation of a new series with many instalments to look forward to. I've only managed the first two and am really disappointed. I can't figure out why they haven't clicked with me. Have you ever had this happen with a book?
Answer:
I kept reading reviews about a book called "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao" that made it sound like it was brilliant.
It WASN'T, and I hate reading a whole book waiting for something to happen and nothing interesting ever does.

Question : What are good fantasy books to read for fun?
I need to read other books, preferably fantasy, to heal my damaged eyes from reading twilight *cringe* You see, friends recommended this wretched book and I was completely disappointed in it.
But anyways, I want to read fantasy books that is just a "fun read" like the Phantom Tollbooth or Alice in Wonderland. What other books are like this? Something that is a feel good book?
Answer:
Check out the books by Tamora Pierce. They are light-hearted, girlpower type fantasy books with plenty of action and adventure. Start with "Alanna: The First Adventure" .
Hope you like it!

Question : Where can I find books to purchase in bulk for my lending library?
I run a real estate development and we are going to be opening our Activity Center facility in the 6 weeks. My main project at this point is stocking our lending library. I have already purchased fiction and mystery books from our local library book sale. I am especially interested in tracking down high quality children's and non-fiction books, as well as reference books.
Answer:
You could try to make deals with a local used bookstore or call around to thrift shops or Goodwill stores to see if they have any book lots.
